Cialis – How It Works and Non-Prescription Options

Cialis TabletCialis is the brand name of a drug called Tadalafil. It is a prescription drug which can be prescribed to counter the problem of erectile dysfunction.

More specifically, it treats the type of Erectile Dysfunction which occurs mostly in older men, whose levels of the enzyme cGMP have been depleted.

It works in much the same way as Viagra does but can remain in the blood stream for 2 or 3 times longer.

The major drawback of drugs like Cialis and Viagra is that user must already be mentally aroused for them to work. They are not aphrodisiacs.

Best Non-Prescription Alternatives

Prescription drugs are not for everybody. They may interact with medication or simply not be effective for your problem.

For example, Cialis, Viagra and others do not even help you to become aroused. You must already be mentally aroused for them to work.

Other products, made from natural ingredients with more benefits could be what you are looking for. But where do you start looking?

How Does Cialis Work?

cholesterolTo maintain a healthy erection, there is more going on in the body than the simple pumping of blood to the penis.

Too little blood and an erection is impossible. Too much and it can cause pain and other problems.

Regulation of the blood flow is therefore critical. The brain sends its initial signal and uses Nitric Oxide as the messenger to trigger the release of cGMP. This enzyme relaxes muscle walls of arteries which increases blood flow.

So that this process does not exceed the necessary level, another enzyme called PDE5 deactivates cGMP at an appropriate rate. The result is a well maintained and stable erection.

Some men have difficulty producing enough cGMP and so cannot maintain an erection.

Cialis – Tadalafil – eliminates the PDE5 which in turn allows the cGMP levels to increase, therefore sustaining an erection.

How Is Cialis Different to Other Drugs?

cialis boxViagra, Levitra and Cialis are all PDE inhibitors, but the first two stay in the blood stream for about 5 hours.

Cialis can be in your blood stream for up to 18 hours. This doesn’t mean it will be effective for that length of time but it is important to know in case you are taking other medications that may interact with it.

The period of time that Cialis stays active is about 8 hours. It is a one-a-day dose which can be taken with or without food about 30 to 60 minutes before sex.

You should ask your doctor if you think you need to use Cialis.

Does Cialis Have Negative Side Effects?

doctorThere are several side effects which can occur as a result of the inhibition of the PDE5 enzyme.

Headaches, stomach pain, reflux and burping, back pain and muscle aches are all possible.

Perhaps the most important side effect is short term lowered blood pressure. This in itself may not be dangerous – the doctor will advise you if you can take Cialis – but it can be a problem for people taking other medication.

For example, drugs to relieve angina already widen the blood vessels so you will not be able to take Cialis (or another prescription erectile dysfunction drug) in conjunction with medication like that.

Again, consult your doctor to determine whether Cialis is the right drug for you.

Are There Alternative Non-Prescription Options?

vigrx resultsThere are products which can be purchased and do not need a prescription, for male sexual enhancement.
